Psychiatric Service Care
We are dedicated to delivering the highest quality of treatment, tailored to meet the unique needs of each youth in our care. Psychiatric care is available to all RYC clients.

At Residential Youth Care (RYC), psychiatric services are provided by a child and adolescent trained physician, ensuring specialized care for the mental health needs of the youth we serve. These services are integrated into all aspects of RYC programming, including residential care, PHP/Annex, TFC services, and regular outpatient clinics.

Our psychiatric services encompass a range of important areas, including safety risk assessments, medication management, mental health evaluations, diagnoses, and regular follow-up appointments. We also closely monitor mental health symptoms and clinical progress to ensure the best possible outcomes for each individual.

The frequency of follow-up evaluations and ongoing monitoring varies depending on each client's unique needs, including their acuity, safety risks, and specific mental health concerns. The severity and frequency of behaviors or reported issues play a key role in determining the level of psychiatric care required. In addition, our psychiatric provider offers ongoing treatment oversight and guidance, supporting clients through their journey toward improved mental health.
Education Support
At Residential Youth Care (RYC), the education department provides personalized support to meet the unique academic needs of each client.

At Residential Youth Care (RYC), the Education Manager oversees the education department, ensuring that clients in residential services receive tailored educational support. This includes setting individual academic goals, communicating with previous school districts for records, coordinating credit recovery through Ketchikan’s school district, assisting with school enrollment, developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and providing support for GED achievement. Clients in residential treatment either attend classes at a Ketchikan school, monitored by RYC staff, or participate in distance learning, with dedicated time in the Education Center for homework assignments and assisted study.

For clients in community care services, educational support is customized based on individual needs, with oversight from the Education Department leadership. This support may include monitoring and assistance while attending Ketchikan district schools, daily homework or study help, GED support, IEP advocacy, and credit recovery assistance. All services provided are documented in RYC’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to ensure proper tracking and coordination.

Case Management
The case management department at Residential Youth Care supports clients by coordinating services, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with external agencies to ensure comprehensive care and successful outcomes.
The case management department at Residential Youth Care (RYC) plays a crucial role in supporting clients across the continuum of care. Case managers are assigned to each client upon entry, providing varying levels of support based on the program the client is involved in. They help coordinate appointments and resources, including medical, educational, and community services, to promote the well-being of both clients and their families. Acting as a liaison, case managers work closely with external agencies such as clinics, the Office of Children’s Services, Department of Juvenile Justice, and others to ensure seamless communication and coordination of care.

Intake services collaborate with the residential program director, clinical team, and administrators to assess client needs and recommend appropriate programs, both within RYC and across Alaska. Case managers develop individualized treatment plans, schedule daily activities, assist with medication consents, and gather necessary medical documentation. They also facilitate monthly treatment team meetings and coordinate additional services, including community resources, state funding, employment, and school support. Case managers assist with referrals to other agencies, ensuring clients receive the comprehensive support needed for their success. All client information is carefully documented and maintained in the Electronic Health Record system, accessible to all RYC staff involved in the client’s care.
Clinical Services
At Residential Youth Care (RYC), we offer personalized, collaborative clinical services, including individual, family, and group therapy, to support each client’s progress and well-being.

At Residential Youth Care (RYC), we are dedicated to actively involving both clients and their families in the treatment process, providing personalized clinical services throughout their care journey. Our team of skilled clinicians, each with a Master’s degree, offers group, individual, and family therapy sessions, with the frequency tailored to meet each client’s unique needs. Clients in more intensive treatment receive additional individual and family sessions, while group therapy is offered at least four times a week in both residential and community-based programs. RYC’s Clinical Director ensures that clinical decisions are made with client engagement in mind, guiding the treatment process and ensuring that any adjustments in care are discussed with clients and families whenever appropriate.

We prioritize client involvement by adapting our care to fit individual needs. In residential programs, clients receive weekly one-on-one sessions with their assigned clinician, along with weekly family sessions to support family engagement in the treatment process. As clients progress, the frequency of sessions may be adjusted to biweekly or monthly, based on ongoing assessments and individual goals. We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, empowering them to develop skills for managing emotions, solving problems, and achieving lasting mental well-being.

Our group therapy sessions, available four or more times a week, encourage client engagement by focusing on vital life skills such as emotional regulation, self-awareness, and appropriate social interaction. Group therapy offers a collaborative space where clients can practice communication, offer and receive support, and strengthen their ability to navigate social situations both within the program and in the broader community.

In all areas of our care, we place clients at the forefront, encouraging their active participation in their treatment and progress. If a clinician or case manager is unavailable, a qualified team member will provide continuous support, ensuring clients stay on track toward their goals.
