Advocacy & Community Initiatives
As a part of our commitment to fostering the safety and well-being of youth at risk and their families, RYC sponsors a number of public events and initiatives designed to build a more resilient community through positive engagement, no-barrier activities, and hands-on learning opportunities.

Community Impact Grants
To cultivate a sense of ownership and investment in the community, Residential Youth Care offers $3,000 Impact Grants to employees who submit proposals designed to support youth and families in Ketchikan.

Examples of previous projects funded by RYC include, but are not limited to: startup funds for Girl Scout Troop 24002 (pictured right), new mics for the Kayhi Drama Kings, support for Holy Name Preschool, and sweatshirts for previous Kayhi graduating classes.

Stomp the Stigma
Founded in 2018, Stomp the Stigma represents a collaborative effort in Ketchikan to end societal stereotypes around substance use disorders and mental health struggles and empower people to ask for help. Our goal is to provide those in crisis with access to a better way of life, both by connecting them with recovery resources and by building a resilient, community-based network of support through the hard times and the good.
Christmas Light Walk
Every year in mid-December, RYC hosts a 100% free Christmas Light Walk celebration on First Avenue in collaboration with various community partners such as the Ketchikan Public Library. Featuring Santa Claus, his elves, and a few extra surprises, this event has something for everyone!

Baranof Youth Fishing Program
Since 2021, Residential Youth Care has partnered with Baranof & Co. to provide the Ketchikan Youth Fishing, Harvesting, & Life Skills Program, which allows young people 10 - 18 to learn about and explore all that SE Alaska has to offer.
