Our Process

At Residential Youth Care, we recognize that reaching out for help can feel overwhelming, and we are here to provide compassionate guidance and support throughout the entire process. We begin with a thorough assessment to understand the unique needs of each individual, and from there, our team of skilled professionals creates a personalized treatment plan. This plan may include residential treatment, individual and family therapy, social skills development, and ongoing community support. We place a strong emphasis on maintaining open communication with parents and guardians, ensuring that everyone is involved and informed as we work together toward positive progress. Our ultimate goal is to foster lasting, positive change and empower young individuals to thrive emotionally and socially.

Overview

Intake

2 weeks

After submitting our referral form, youth are carefully evaluated by a referral team that includes the Residential Program Director, Clinical Director, CEO, and other clinicians as needed. Once accepted for treatment, the client must complete the intake packet and provide necessary documents, such as their birth certificate, insurance coverage or Denali Kid Care Card, and IEP (if applicable). For out-of-town clients with Medicaid, our Intake Specialist will assist in arranging travel to Ketchikan. Otherwise, the guardian is responsible for travel expenses.

Upon arrival in Ketchikan, the Intake Specialist will greet the client and guide them to the clinical building to complete any remaining paperwork and meet their Case Manager. The client will then be taken to their assigned Lodge, where they will go through an inventory of their personal belongings and begin their orientation packet. They will have around 48 hours to settle in before joining group sessions and daily programming.

Community Care

As clinically indicated

We strive to keep our clients immersed in their communities as much as possible. Local clients with less intensive needs have the option of completing their treatment on an outpatient basis.

This level of care is recommended for clients who maintain personal safety and meet developmentally appropriate roles in their home, school, and community settings.

Residential Care

180 days

Once officially in the program, clients will undergo two assessments. The first, completed by our on-staff Child Psychiatrist, takes place on day one. The second, a virtual assessment administered by a contracted organization, will occur within the first week. These assessments are the foundation of our Treatment Plans and help us to pair the client with a clinician that can best meet their needs. The client's Case Manager will begin organizing regular Treatment Team Meetings and act as the family's main point of contact for the duration of their child's treatment.

Therapeutic Treatment
Home Services

As clinically indicated

Residential Youth Care’s Therapeutic Treatment Home Services (TTHS) are primarily used as a step down from residential treatment to provide a living environment that is more normalized and individualized to support the client’s progress. Trained, licensed TTHS care providers offer home environment support for continued development toward identified treatment goals.
