Parent Orientation Class

RYC offers Parent Orientation Class to all parents, caregivers, and families of RYC clients taught by RYC's executive director Jack Duckworth. The class is conducted in two 2-hour sessions that provide parents and youth with an overview of RYC's program, strategies for continued social skill development in the home, and a behavior contract.
The class culminates in a behavioral contract that is created collaboratively between RYC's executive director, parents/caregivers, and the youth.
RYC's Parent Orientation Class is offered free of charge to families in the community who are experiencing difficulties with their youth. To schedule a Parent Orientation Class, call Jack Duckworth at 907-617-3145.

COMPONENTS OF PARENT ORIENTATION:
Parents work through a parenting handbook that helps develop precise communication skills, become positive role-models, teach in a positive fashion, problem solve in a constructive manner, and develop structure and monitoring in order to help their children be as successful as possible in life. This workbook includes the behavioral contract.for use in the home and/or while on passes outside of the program. The youth at RYC complete a youth handbook especially designed for them that closely follows and complements the parent handbook. This helps transition youth back into the home and allows the parent and the youth to have agreed upon boundaries and proper expectations from their relationship. |
